A short unique drive south of 120klm to Freycinet National Park was
the task today on another sunny East CoastTasmanian day.
We were up, fed and packed before our friends arose at
8:30am at which time we said goodbye and thanked them for there help in
steering us in the right direction.
Morning tea was at a place called Bicheno which we really
liked. A magic little town on the beach that would easily accommodate us if we
chose to live there. Really nice.
Coffees and milkshakes were the order of the morning and
they were delicious. The caffe/deli was called Panisis right on the main road
and she was an excellent barista. She also had local wines, cheese, chocolates,
lollies & the normal array of delicatessen treats. Please stop in there you
won't be disappointed.
By lunch we arrived at the National Park. We obtained the permit
& set up 10m from the beach on Coles Bay. $18.50 for a powered site,
without a doubt this is the best value site we have had so far given its
location. We will like it here.
The boys true to form introduced themselves to other
travellers and struck up new friendships with some other kids. They are
definitely socialites now, Z always was but Mav now is just as confident.
I am a bit nervous about how long the good weather will
last so I convinced the tribe to go to Wineglass Bay today while it was clear
blue skies. It claims to be a 3hr return walk but if you didn't have young
children you could do it in 2. Along the way are great vantage points for shots
of Coles Bay, beautiful in its own right & it adds to the adventure... The
boys are definitely over walking & we hope we haven't scarred them for life
but these types of stops during the trek make it interesting for them.
We made it to the lookout which is about 50mins straight
uphill & halfway. It was 21 degrees but it feels like late Brisbane 20's so
quite taxing when Maverick is on your shoulders.
The view was just as good as in the pictures given the
weather. Brilliant, & we are glad we decided to do it today. If it is nice
tomorrow, first thing I will go for a run right in just to say I stood on the
beach. There is plenty to do in terms of other bays and beaches to see that are
more easily accessible by road, so that is on the agenda for tomorrow along
with some short walks.
Porterhouse steak, corn on the cob and potato slices on
the weber tonight.
There could be beers & maybe a port afterwards
compliments of Kim & Trudi from Adelaide.
Tassie so far - big tick....
