Freycinet National Park - It does get cloudy in Tazzie

Clouds were the order of the day today, but with cloud cover comes comfortable temperatures, overnight & during the day...at least until the wind picks up in the afternoon.

Late morning after playing a test match cricket game and kicking countless footballs with all of the boys in the campsite, we decided to go and have a look at 3 areas close by in the national park that don't entail long walks. Right up Maverick's alley!

First stop was Sleepy Bay. Like the Bay of Fires it was littered with the red stone formations surrounding what seemed an untouched little part of the world. There was a lone fisherman not getting anything, but if it were I it would be fine to just have the place to himself - fish or no fish- as he did before we arrived.  A short walk, plenty to look at and some good shots. The camera seems to take spectacular pictures on overcast days so although I would have liked to do this yesterday after Wineglass in clear skies, I think the outcome was more than pleasing. Not to mention the boys were more energised after a night's sleep and no travel today.

Second stop the Tourville Lighthouse which was quite elevated. There is a funky boardwalk that circumferences the tower with a few photo vantage points containing detailed descriptions of exactly what you can see it that direction.  The view was great and you could see the entrance to Wineglass Bay that gave it a whole new perspective. In fact from up there you could see the whole peninsular. This would have been better yesterday because at that elevation many of the clouds distorted the mountains......& it's not often you can see such rugged mountains steeping directly into the sea. Brilliant & a lot like some of the east coast in the South Island of NZ.

Third stop was Honeymoon Bay. As soon as we made the 100m walk in we saw a celebrant finalising the signatures on a marriage certificate for a young couple that had just tied the knot. Here we're two witnesses, the couple and the celebrant. A small affair but in a magic location. It is Wednesday too so a little strange and a bit like us, they'd wished for weather like yesterday, although I'm sure that was the last thing on their minds at the time he gave up the rest of his life.

After lunch back at camp, the boys were starting to get a bit to big for their britches. When there are other kids round they just do not listen to us, so we kidnapped them and went for a coffee in town at a beaut little cafe by the waters of Coles Bay. That killed an hour and upon arriving back the kids went back to getting all of their clothes wet and sandy while I got stuck into another book. Nat went for a walk & I followed with a customary J Mann 5k shuffle. I sure do have a bit of after-wobble happening each time my foot hits the ground. But that's OK, I am on holidays. Strangely Nat has lost weight so I told her she is not drinking enough and she needs to snap out of it. It didn't make me feel any better about myself, so I grabbed a can of coke and poured myself a bourbon and that seemed to lighten up my mood a little.

Even on cold, cloudy days we can have fun as a family. All good.
Port Arthur tomorrow, then on to Hobart.
